Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) was established under an Act of Parliament i.e. Chartered Secretaries Act 2010 and it is the only recognized professional body to develop, promote and regulate the profession of Chartered Secretary in Bangladesh.
ICSB is a statutory body administrated by Ministry of Commerce, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and it is regulated under CS Regulations 2011.
The major contribution of a Chartered Secretary is in the corporate sector. Chartered Secretary is a requisite qualification to become a Company Secretary. Company Secretary is an important professional aiding the efficient management of the corporate sector.
Company Secretary is a statutory officer under the Companies Act 1994. According to Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) all the listed companies should have a Company Secretary. Company Secretary is the compliance officer of the company, who has to interact, coordinate, integrate and co-operate with various other functional heads in a company.

My dear ICSB Professional Colleagues, Interns, Students, and ICSB officers and staffs! Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm!” I keep this mantra above my desk as a reminder to be enthusiastic about the works ahead. Those words act as a cheer-leader for me on days when I cannot bear any more bad news. They motivate me when I feel stuck or burned out as we collectively pull through. My hope is that they will set the tone for my presidency with the ICSB, which began this month. It is a privilege to lead such an outstanding institution of higher learning and professionalism. The Institute to be rated a “Best Value” Institute by the Society we all live in.
I, on my own behalf and behalf of my Council Members express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Hon’ble Members for electing us as the Council Members of ICSB for the term 2022-25. I also express my gratitude to the Council Members for electing me as the President of the Institute for the Term 2022-25. I have observed that a large number of young members unitedly came forward to give their sacred verdict for the development of the ICSB profession in the 5th ICSB election to materialize their hopes and aspirations which had been pending for a long time. "Corporate Governance" is crucial in governing the company, instating its own customs, policies and laws into companies and its employees in every level. CG can play an important role in ensuring accountability and transparency. ICSB as a professional body to develop, promote and regulate the profession of CS in Bangladesh, should act as watchdog to promote best practice in business and corporate houses.
It is good to know that ICSB is playing an effective and meaningful role to develop, promote and regulate the profession of Chartered Secretaries in Bangladesh. The profession has been contributing in the field of corporate governance practices. ICSB helps the corporate bodies achieve transparent and sound CG practices, which will ultimately help them sustain in the globalized competitive free market economy.
I would like to endorse the international demand for standard practice. Good governance is indeed a very important factor for any nation to develop, and as a nation, it is always impertinent for us that nation-wide institutions follow an accepted and appreciated way of CG. I presume that following the international norm and practice would help us socio-economically strengthen our position in the global setups.
Since its inception, ICSB has been playing a very important role in establishing good corporate governance in the country. To promote and facilitate good governance in the corporate sector ICSB has been taking various effective measures. These measures include recognition and awarding companies for their commendable contribution to governance.
ICSB initiatives shall hopefully provide required strategic inputs and add value to our corporate sectors. With a note of high appreciation, I would like to mention the ICSB's continued strive of promoting corporate governance practices since its inception. ICSB will surely encourage the stakeholders to earn performance excellence and may uphold the overall professional standard of Bangladesh in this discipline, globally.
The institute deserves to be appreciated for their contributions and endeavors in developing and promoting good governance in the corporate sector. I believe that, ICSB will work as a means of greater accountability and better control in the corporate sector in Bangladesh. It will be an excellent opportunity for professionals to share their perceptions with scholars, researchers, and other professionals from home and abroad.
