Alebtong District Wins the NIFT 2022 Lango Districts Tournament. The 2022 Lango Districts Tournament kick-started the NIFT Tournaments after the COVID-19 Lockdowns. All 9 Districts in Lango participated in this Tournament with each district represented by two community football teams. The theme for this Tournament was, “Kick COVID out from our communities and country”. This Tournament is a yearly Tournament organised under NIFT for the development of both socio-economic and football within Lango, thus creating a competitive platform where talents from within the grassroots can be identified, exposed, nurtured, monitored, and promoted. 2021 is the pioneer year for this Tournament targeted at the response to COVID-19 community recovery. After nearly 2 months of crunch football matches among the participating districts, it all came down to the final day between the 2 giants of Lango, Oyam District, and Alebtong District. These two teams gave such a wonderful show to many spectators and supporters who came to watch their districts play in the finals. Alebtong took an early lead in the game but was soon canceled out by a super strike from the Oyam striker. The match held on at 1:1 until the dying minutes of the match when Alebong found the back of the net to a sheer roar, and excitement from the crowd. “This match simply had me holding on to my heart without breathing”,- says one of the denizens of Alebtong. Another exclaimed, “When we equalised, I was sure the cup was coming to us”- says a supporter from Oyam District. The match ended and was followed by the usual NIFT community celebration that is always scheduled at the end of every tournament. The crowd was treated to performances from various local artists, both comedians and musicians. Alebtong has now started the exclusive “Winners of the Lango Districts Tournament” membership. They will wait to see whether another member will join them in the 2023 tournament year or not. Congratulations Alebtong District on your win!
