PANCAKE

  • 2018-02-24 03:48:55

A pancake is a flat cake prepared from starch based batter and usually contain eggs, milk and butter, prepared on a hot surface like frying pan in oil or butter. Pancakes are usually taken as breakfast. Below are the ingredients and directions of preparing an ideal pancake.

Cook time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

1 ½ Cups of plain flour.

3½ teaspoon baking powder.

1 teaspoon salt.

1¼ cups of milk.

1 Egg.

3 tablespoon butter, melted.

Directions:

Sift together in a large bowl, the flour, and baking powder, salt and make a well in the center. Pour the milk, egg and melted batter* all at once in the middle and mix gradually from the center; drawing the flour into the eggs, milk and melted butter. Once all the flour is incorporated, beat until you have a smooth thick paste. Add a little more milk if it is too stiff to beat.

Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium heat. Pour or scoop the batter* onto the hot pan using approximately ¼ cup for each pancake, tilting the pan to move the mixture around for a thin and even layer. Quickly pour any excess batter into a jug and return the pan to the heat, then leave to cook, undisturbed, for about 40secs. Hold the pan handle, ease a fish slice under the pancake, then quickly lift and flip over. The pancake should turn golden brown underneath after 30secs and ready to serve.

Hint: Banana could be added to the mixture before cooking for a great breakfast delight.

*butter is a mixture of flour, milk, and eggs used in making pancakes, usually for coating before frying.

PIZZA

Pizza is a yeasted flatbread generally topped with tomato sauce and cheese and it is baked in an oven. It originated from Italy but enjoyed by many across the globe. Swageat presents to you the quickest and simplest way to make a delicious pizza at home by yourself.

Cook time: 30mins

Ingredients:

3 ½ cups of bread flour

2 ¼ teaspoon of dry yeast

1 ½ cups of warm water

2 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of sugar

2 tablespoon of olive oil

100ml of passata

1 handful of fresh basil

1 crushed garlic clove

125g sliced ball mozzarella

1 handful of grated or shaved Parmesan

Halved handful of cherry tomatoes

Descriptions:

Place the flour into a large bowl and stir with yeast and salt. Make a well in the mixture and pour into it the 1 ½ cups of warm water and olive oil. Mix together with a wooden spoon until you have a soft and slightly wet dough. Add enough of the rest of the flour to make the dough firm to handle. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 4mins until it is smooth. Cover with dishtowel and put it aside. You can also allow the dough to rise.

Mix the basil, crushed garlic and passata together and season to taste. Leave to stand for a while at room temperature and shape the set-aside kneaded dough.

Give the dough a quick knead, if you have let the dough rise and divide into three balls. Roll out the dough into large rounds, on a lightly floured surface, about 20cm across, using a rolling pin. Hint: make the dough very thin as it will definitely rise in the oven. Lift the rounds onto three floured tray.

Heat your oven to 230oC and put an upturned baking tray in the oven on the top shelf. Smooth sauce over bases with the back of a spoon. Scatter with cheese and tomatoes, sprinkle over it olive oil and season. Put a pizza on it’s baking sheet, still on it’s baking sheet on top of a preheated tray. Bake for 7-10mins till crunchy. Your pizza is ready and you can serve with a little olive oil and basil leaves.
